Ovation Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the maker of Panhematin® for acute porphyria, was recently acquired by Lundbeck, Inc., a Danish company with international holdings. Lundbeck, Inc. has assured the APF that Panhematin® will remain on the market and available to patients as ever. Physician, hospital and pharmacy access phone numbers will remain unchanged and can be found here.
Panhematin® is used to treat acute attacks of porphyria and is the only commercially available heme therapy in the United States. More information on the acute porphyrias is available here; Panhematin® is not used to treat EPP, PCT, CEP or HEP.
